Borrowed from Ancient Greek καυτηριάζω (kautēriázō, to burn with a branding iron), from καυτήριον (kautḗrion, branding iron) +‎ -ίζω (-ízō), from καυτήρ (kautḗr, burner) +‎ -ιον (-ion), from καίω (kaíō, I burn) +‎ -τήρ (-tḗr). Equivalent to cautērium (branding iron) +‎ -izō.
