[edit]From Latin catēchīzāre (“to instruct in religion; to catechize”), from Ancient Greek κατηχίζω (katēkhízō, “to instruct orally”), from κατηχέω (katēkhéō, “to resound, instruct orally”), from κατά (katá, “down”) + ἠχή (ēkhḗ, “sound, noise”).
