From Latin cadmia, ultimately from Ancient Greek Καδμεία (Kadmeía), from Κάδμος (Kádmos, Cadmus) + -εια (-eia, -ia: forming related substances). Doublet of calamine, calaminaris, and lapis calaminaris.
