[edit]Inherited from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *buhaŋin (“sandbank, sand spit, shoal”). Possibly composed of *bu (“dust”) (cf. abo and abok) + hangin (“wind”). Compare Sambali boyangin, Kapampangan buangin, Remontado Agta tabuhangin, and Tausug buhangin. See also Malay pasir bungin.
