From the verb bucare, from buca, or from either Old Frankish *būk (cavity, stomach) or Gothic *𐌱𐌿𐌺𐍃 (*būks), both from Proto-Germanic *būkaz (belly, torso). Compare Occitan/Catalan buc ("torso; cow's chest"). More at bouk.
