[edit]From Proto-Slavic *bridъkъ (“sharp”). Cognate with Polish brzydki (“ugly”), Czech břitký (“cutting, sharp”), Serbo-Croatian brȉdak (“cutting, sharp”), and Ukrainian бридки́й (brydkýj, “disgusting, ugly”).
