[edit]From a South Slavic language, ultimately Proto-Slavic *božurъ (“peony”), from *bogъ (“god”). Compare Serbo-Croatian божур, Bulgarian божур (božur). Also borrowed into Romanian bujor and Hungarian bazsarózsa.[1][2]
