Etymology

From a South Slavic language, ultimately Proto-Slavic *božurъ (peony), from *bogъ (god). Compare Serbo-Croatian божур, Bulgarian божур (božur). Also borrowed into Romanian bujor and Hungarian bazsarózsa.[1][2]
