[edit]From Ottoman Turkish بویاجی (boyacı, “dyer”), from Proto-Turkic *bodagčï, derived from Proto-Turkic *bodag (“paint, dye”). Equivalent to boya (“paint”) + -cı. Cognate with Bashkir буяусы (buyawsı), Kazakh бояушы (boäuşy), Kyrgyz боёкчу (boyokcu), Southern Altai бойучы (boyučï), Tatar буяучы (buyawçı), Uyghur بوياقچى (boyaqchi), Uzbek boʻyoqchi.
