[edit]From translingual Botrytis, borrowed from Ancient Greek βότρυς (bótrus, “(bunch of) grapes”) + -itis (“disease”) (from New Latin -itis, from Ancient Greek -ῖτις (-îtis, “pertaining to”)).

- Any fungus of the genus Botrytis, especially Botrytis cinerea which is responsible for the formation of noble rot on grapes.
