French
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle French buleter, beluter, from Middle High German biuteln, biūtel, from Old High German butil (“pouch, bag”), from Proto-Germanic *buzdô (“beetle, grub, swelling”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰūs- (“to move quickly”). Cognate with Dutch buidel; compare also Galician barutar and Italian burattare.
