[edit]Either from berbec + -ar or from Vulgar Latin or Late Latin vervēcārius, from Latin vervēx (Also attested as Medieval Latin birbicārius or berbicārius). Compare French berger, Sardinian berbecarju, berbecàlgiu, berbegarzu, Aromanian birbicar.
