[edit]Inherited from Old Czech bdieti, from Proto-Slavic *bъděti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *budḗˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰewdʰ- (“to (be) awake”), cognate with Serbo-Croatian bdeti.[1]
