bashtinë
Appearance
Albanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from a South Slavic language, compare Serbo-Croatian baština (“inheritance”) from Bulgarian баща (bašta, “father, governor, patriarch”) which is derived from Proto-Slavic *batę (“older brother, daddy”).[1][2] A rather late borrowing, considering the preserved unstressed vowel, and lack of rhotacism.
