bakur
Appearance
Northern Kurdish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Related to Zazaki vakur, ultimately uncertain. From ba + kur; the latter perhaps meaning hard, strong and connected to xurt (“strong, hard”) and English hard, signifying the direction from which the cold and hard wind blows. Perhaps an ancient mythological concept to separate "good wind" (southern wind) from "bad wind" (northern wind). Compare başûr and also Gurani واسارد (wasard, “north; literally "cold wind"”).
