[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بلدرجین (bıldırcın, “quail”), from Proto-Turkic *bïldur-, *buldïr- (“quail”) + *-čin.[1] Cognate with Chuvash пӑлтӑрчан (pălt̬ărč̬an).
