Etymology

[edit]

From Old Swedish bikare, from Old Norse bikarr (cup), from Old Saxon bikeri (cup), from Late Latin bīcārium (wine vat, jug), probably a diminutive of Ancient Greek βῖκος (bîkos, amphora). Related to German Becher.

Noun

[edit]

bägare c

  1. a cup, a beaker, a goblet (finer drinking vessel)
    Töm din bägare
    Drink up (empty your cup)
  2. a cup (similarly shaped container, for example for holding ice cream)
Hur vill du ha din glass? Strut, våffla eller bägare?
How would you like your ice cream? Regular cone, waffle cone or in a cup?

Usage notes

[edit]

Refers to a cup as opposed to a cone generally in the case of ice cream, not necessarily implying a fancier container.
