[edit]Etymology
[edit]From ayé (“the world”) + lu (“pierce”) + já (“to slit”) + ara (“body; itself”), literally “the world has torn through itself”.
The term was originally an appellation for the colonial era coin referring to its pierced centre that was used to string the coins together. The name also referred to the controversy surrounding the demonetization of precolonial currencies and introduction of silver and alloy fiat.[1]
In modern usage the term refers to the Internet's role in creating a Global village.
