[edit]From Proto-Finnic *auvo, possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *aiwō (whence Old Norse ey (“luck, heavenly aid”)). Cognate with Estonian au, Karelian auvo and Livonian o’v. Possibly a doublet of aika.
