[edit]Unknown. Possibly related to 蟲仔/虫仔 (thâng-á, “insect”), or a reduplication of atang. Compare Casiguran Dumagat Agta atang-atang (“species of poisonous river crab”). See also Cebuano tanga (“scorpion”).
