[edit]From Ottoman Turkish عسكری (askeri), from Arabic عَسْكَرِيّ (ʕaskariyy), from عَسْكَر (ʕaskar, “soldiers, army”), from an Iranian language. By surface analysis, asker + -i (nisba suffix).
