Cyrillic апармаг
Abjad آپارماق

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (aparmaq), likely from *alıp barmak, in which case it would be equivalent to alıb + varmaq (to go). Compare Uzbek obormoq, Uyghur ئاپارماق (aparmaq), dialectal Turkish aparmak, and Shor апар (to take away).

Figurative senses are probably a calque of Russian вести (vesti).
