From anishinaabe +‎ -mo (S/he speaks the language of...). Cognate to Eastern Ojibwa/Ottawa nishnaabemo and Potawatomi neshnabé. Compare also Severn Ojibwa anishininiimo, where naabe was replaced by its synonym inini.
