[edit]From Ottoman Turkish آماج (amaç), from Old Anatolian Turkish آماج (amaç), اوماج (omaç), from Proto-Turkic *um-. Cognate with Karakhanid اَمَجْ (amač),[1] Azerbaijani amac, Southern Altai амаду (amadu).
