[edit]Etymology
[edit]From à- (“nominalizing prefix”) + kùkọ (“partial reduplication of kọ (“to crow”)”), literally “That which crows”, cognate with Igala àìkọ, Igbo ọ̀kụkụ̀, Edo ọkhọkhọ. Proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruboid *à-kɪ̀kɔ. Likely related distantly to Proto-Bantu *nkókó, of onomatopoeic origin. See Akan akokɔ and other cognates in Benue-Congo
