Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish عقلی باشنده (aḳlı başında),[1] from عقل (aḳl, aḳıl) and باش (baş),[2][3] equivalent to akıl (wits, reason, mind) +‎ (possessive suffix) +‎ baş (head) +‎ (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)da (locative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally his/her/their wits are in their head.
