[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish عقبنده (ʿaḳabinde),[1][2] from عقب (ʿaḳab),[3] equivalent to akap (“heel, end, descendants”) (obsolete by itself) + -i (possessive suffix) + -(n)de (locative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant).
