Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish عقبنده (ʿaḳabinde),[1][2] from عقب (ʿaḳab),[3] equivalent to akap (heel, end, descendants) (obsolete by itself) +‎ -i (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)de (locative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant).
