From Latin Zadracarta, from Ancient Greek Ζαδρακάρτα (Zadrakárta), from Old Iranian. Compare Persian زرد (zard, yellow), Persian ساری (sâri, Sari), a city known for its abundant citrus fruits located in former Hyrcania, and Middle Persian 𐭪𐭫𐭲 (-kirt, -gird), a suffix forming city names.
