X-junction (plural X-junctions)

  1. (genetics) A non-linear strand of DNA where certain cruciform binding proteins can compete for binding.
    • 1998, Jac A. Nickoloff, Merl F. Hoekstra, DNA Damage and Repair: Volume I: DNA Repair in Prokaryotes and Lower Eukaryotes, page 197:
      Linear molecules containing the same sequences are not bound, and one X-junction successfully competes with another for binding whereas linear duplexes do not compete.
