[edit]First attested as uuirthv[m] in 918-948. The oldest form is the dative plural form of Old Dutch uurth (“artificial mound used for habitation”). The current form of the toponym is a compound of woerd (“artificial mound used for habitation”) and blok (“enclosed field”).
