suggestion

[edit]

I found this just now. Wouldn't it work better as a favicon than what's proposed here? -- Liliana 15:36, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Old votes (for posterity's sake)

[edit]

Support

[edit]
  1. Support it's better than the one we have now. We can always change it again later when we have a new full logo. —CodeCat 04:16, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have changed my mind after previewing it. You can see what it will look like in your browser by going here and looking at the browser tab. I don't think it looks very good when resized. —CodeCat 14:12, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
That link doesn't work for me (the logo still appears large), but this is also the favicon used by fr.Wikt, isn't it? So that's another way of previewing it. - -sche (discuss) 19:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  2. Support. Not in love with this specific logo, but differentiating our icon from Wikipedia's is useful. Equinox 11:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oppose

[edit]
  1. Oppose This is derived from the tile logo, and the community rejected that logo for a reason. It makes no sense to use a favicon that represents a logo the community does not want. -- Liliana 21:40, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  2. Oppose, per Liliana. --Yair rand (talk) 04:06, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  3. Oppose. If it were a different logo, I would probably vote in favour. However, as that is not the case, Oppose, per Liliana. -- ALGRIF talk 13:55, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

New options, new vote

[edit]

I have retracted the vote, and set up a way to vote for Liliana's option. If anyone else has a favicon in mind, I'd love to see it. Personally, I don't care that much as long as we differentiate it from en.wikipedia. It will restart on the 10th. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:39, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mulling logos

[edit]

If there is a vote on what logo to use at some point, I would nominate, in addition to the incumbent double-sens: obligatory, and currently-used Dictionary Entry logo de.Wikt et al also use, and the oft-discussed Tile/Toast logo fr.Wikt et al use, the Open Book logo simple.Wikt uses for consideration. Note that I don't want to start a debate here on the merits/demerits of the various logos — wait till MK or someone else starts a BP discussion to get into that — I just thought I'd start a repository of things people think should be considered. (And I think that only nominations with many supporters should wind up on the ballot.) PS, on a less serious note, Vahag's old proposal could be revived. - -sche (discuss) 21:22, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

There's a BP discussion somewhere, nobody but Ungoliant commented much. I don't feel like any more arguing, just voting and deciding. Would you like to write the vote collaboratively? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 21:25, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Me? Or is that a plural you? — Ungoliant (Falai) 22:08, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Vultisne hanc electionem scribere? (Nunc tibi Romanisque clarum existimo.) —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:42, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I thought the book logo was rejected before? -- Liliana 23:10, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
So? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:11, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
The book logo beat the tile logo by a significant margin in the vote on Meta. There were successful votes in favor of switching to it on numerous Wiktionaries. On ENWT, the vote result was 27 support to 17 opposed. --Yair rand (talk) 23:15, 11 February 2013 (UTC) (Edit: The book logo won on Meta by one hundred votes, 556 to 456. --Yair rand (talk) 08:02, 12 February 2013 (UTC))Reply
Obviously, the vote on Meta was never widely accepted enough by any autonomous community, considering how much dissent there's been. If we want a better logo, we need to forget about that and hold a vote ourselves. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:19, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
If the book logo got that much support on Meta and here, we should certainly include it in any vote. :) - -sche (discuss) 01:20, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
The logo vote should be designed in a way that prevents members of other Wiktionaries from undermining it to force us to be more like them. — Ungoliant (Falai) 00:46, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Voters are required to be (minimally) active on en.Wikt. Beyond that requirement... it wouldn't be fair to discount the votes of people whose rationales you or I disapproved of. - -sche (discuss) 01:20, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
So... nobody's got any suggestions besides our current logo, the Tile/Toast logo, and the Open Book logo? - -sche (discuss) 08:54, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Possibly a new logo based on the favicon? Other than that I am out of ideas. *shrug* -- Liliana 09:02, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
That’s a good idea. The ['w] favicon is pretty cool. — Ungoliant (Falai) 17:02, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think our current logo works well with the ['w] favicon. (The Open Book logo would also work.) - -sche (discuss) 20:19, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
