Rules

[edit]

Entries included in the competition

[edit]

Any entry that has at least five English senses in the same POS section, not marked (by the close of January 19 (UTC)) for deletion, cleanup, discussion ({{rft-sense}}), or verification, where the entry as a whole is also not so marked. (It may have additional senses in that POS section which are so marked, as long as five aren't.)

The senses can't be initialisms or acronyms, neither marked as such in the POS header nor not.

The general idea

[edit]

Add another sense to the same POS section.

Details of entry

[edit]

The sense must be added by the close of January 15 UTC and, by the close of January 19 UTC, cannot be marked for deletion, cleanup, discussion, or verification. You must also add an example sentence or quotation which clearly shows use that distinguishes it from other senses.

Splitting an existing sense into two (or more) is sufficient as long as an example sentence or quotation is added to each (any of which can be taken from the pre-splitting sense) which clearly shows use distinguishing the sense from all other senses, including the one from which it was split.

Eligibility

[edit]

The competition is open to everyone who can edit pages. If there's difficulty in editing a protected page, please list the material to be added here instead.

Cheating shall include things like closing an unfinished deliberation on an added sense so the sense is not marked for discussion by the end of January 19, and shall be determined by the community. Cheating disqualifies the contestant. But presumably this won't be an issue.

Scoring

[edit]

A single point is won for a sense so added, but two points for the second sense in each POS section, four for the third, eight for the fourth, etc. If a quotation (not an example sentence) is added that clearly shows use that distinguishes it from other senses, then an additional point is won per such quotation per sense, with a maximum of three points additional per sense.

Splitting a sense into two, as described above under "Details of entry", counts as adding one sense. Splitting into three counts as adding two senses. Etc. The maximum of three quotations is per post-splitting sense.

Downunder claims 264289 points, more or less.

diffs to line. 17 points. More, if I split my addition "or a blank in place of such [a row of] text" onto a separate sense line (but I'm not sure it merits such separation). — Beobach 22:02, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Result

[edit]

Even discounting his questionable edits, the remainder clearly show Downunder to be the winner. Congratulations! Your prize is a flying steering wheel.—msh210 (talk) 07:04, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hooray for me! I am now joint-top WT:FUN winner! --Downunder 12:05, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll write the next compo, mushy. --Downunder 12:06, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Something involving animals, I've been thinkin' of it for a while. Is mega-fun. --Downunder 12:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
