These are language-specific criteria for inclusion (or exclusion) of terms.
List of languages
- Entries for nonidiomatic possessive cases should not be created.
- Entries for nonidiomatic possessive cases should not be created.[1]
- If a citation is written with long s (ſ), it counts, for attestation purposes, as the common short s (s). No English entry should include the long s in its title.
- Example: A citation that includes "phantaſtick" counts to attest phantastick. The English entry phantaſtick should not be created.
- Any English word will sometimes be written with an uppercase first letter, or with all uppercase letters. Such capitalizations should not be included unless they are a property of a specific word.
- The standard on English Wiktionary is to treat all of Hebrew as one language, including Biblical, Mishnaic, and Modern Hebrew. All have the same categories, all have the same ==Language== headers, etc. The only exception is in Etymology sections, where to indicate derivation from Biblical Hebrew one can use
{{etyl|hbo}}
, and to indicate derivation from Modern Israeli Hebrew one can use{{etyl|he-IL}}
. - Exclude most constructions that are simply one or more proclitics plus a base word.[2]
- Words formed with a prefix always written with a hyphen (e.g. an- (“very”), dea- (“good”)) should not be created unless they are idiomatic.
- The genitive case of a noun used attributively should not be listed as an adjective; for example, adhmaid is just an inflected form of the noun adhmad (“wood”); it should not be listed as an adjective meaning ‘wooden’.
- If a term is included with a spelling that includes kanji, then its all-hiragana spelling should be included as well. If a term is included with a kanji, hiragana, or katakana spelling, then its Hepburn romanization should be included as well.
- Entries named with macrons (ā, ē, etc.) or dots (ċ, ġ) should not be created. The title should be written as the version without diacritics instead.
- If a form with the letter ð is attested, then its form with the letter þ in its place should also be created. Likewise for ƿ and w.
- Entries named with macrons (ā, ē, etc.) should not be created. The title should be written as the version without diacritics instead.
- If a form with the digraph th is attested, the form with the letter d in its place should also be created.
- If a form with the letter c, the curled z or the digraph uu is attested, the form with k, z or w in their place should also be created.
- Entries named with macrons (ā, ē, etc.) should not be created. Vowels with macrons should be replaced by vowels with acute accents (á, é etc.).
- If a form with the letter i followed by a vowel is attested, the form with j in its place should also be created as the main entry.
- If a form with the letter c is attested, the form with k in its place should also be created as the main entry.
- Entries named with macrons (ā, ē, etc.) should not be created. The title should be written as the version without diacritics instead.
- If a form with the letters ƀ, c or the digraph uu is attested, the form with the letters v, k or w in their place should also be created.
