[edit]First attested as vrilechoven in 1320. Potentially a compound of either Old Dutch Vrilo (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ing- or Middle Dutch Vrilinc (a personal name) and the dative plural form of hof (“homestead, farmstead”).
