adding verb conjugations

[edit]

ܫܠܡܐ ܐܢܐ (rhyme intended) -

thanks so much for your contributions, it's so exciting whenever someone new joins this project

i wasnt sure if you knew how to add a verb conjugation table but thought i would mention it since including them helps the article quality. going down the template rabbit hole...

for pages with verbs you can create all the conjugations by invoking the conjugation template and passing the arguments to it. for example in https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=%DC%90%DC%9F%DC%A0 you'll see

{{aii-conj-verb/A1a|ܐ|ܟ݂|ܠ}}

creates the whole conjugation table. you might wonder what "aii-conj-verb/A1a" means - well if you go to the template url https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:aii-conj-verb/A1a you'll see it redirects to https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:aii-conj-verb/G-1i. This redirection is because the templates were recently renamed to emit more information about the conjugation, for example G-1i tells us it's a g-stem conjugation where the 1st letter of the root is ignored. Antonklroberts spent a lot of time creating and improving these building blocks which has helped editors' productivity and minimized editing errors.

if you go to https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Template:aii-conj-verb/G-1i&action=edit you'll see that this verb conjugation template itself inherits from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:aii-conj (which redirects to https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:aii-conj-verb) 🤯. if you

  1. peruse the edit history
  2. view the "edit" page
  3. repeat steps 1 and 2 for any template/modules it inherits from

you'll quickly "see" how everything is pieced together

you can also add inflections for nouns and prepositions using this same approach

im useless when it comes to our language but if had questions about this sort of thing... feel free to ask me anything, anytime on my talk page ColumbaBush (talk) 20:23, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

btw you can find all uses of a template using the advanced search feature, ex this query will give you all the places where aii-conj-verb/A1a is used:
https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?search=hastemplate%3Aaii-conj-verb%2FA1a&title=Special:Search&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&advancedSearch-current=%7B%22fields%22%3A%7B%22hastemplate%22%3A%5B%22aii-conj-verb%2FA1a%22%5D%7D%7D&ns0=1 ColumbaBush (talk) 20:37, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

modules

[edit]

okay one more thing... modules are for more complex things that templates can't do https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic_modules and are scripted in lua ex. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Module:aii-translit

you generally won't invoke modules explicitly because they're implicitly used under the hood.

like when you specify a noun with this template https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:aii-noun via

{{aii-noun|ܩܵܛܘܿ|f-s|pl=ܩܵܛܘܵܬܹ̈ܐ}}

where is the "aii-noun" template coming from? if you go to https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Template:aii-noun&action=edit you'll see it invokes this module https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Module:aii-headword which is responsible for creating all these part of speech templates https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic_headword-line_templates we use ColumbaBush (talk) 20:56, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much. I will try to learn and use these temples and modules:) ܐܢܐ (talk) 04:42, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Progressive and past participles

[edit]

hey i noticed youre online, i was gonna have them be included in the conj tables instead of manually typing them out via aii-verb, can u help me w/ updating them? ColumbaBush (talk) 01:28, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

For sure. And I think you should consider adding verbal and instance nouns in the table as well ܐܢܐ (talk) 01:31, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
sounds good, yah let's do these first though ColumbaBush (talk) 01:32, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

hey man - just wanted to thank you for everything you've done in the past 6 months... you've really raised the bar on the overall quality of this project by applying your your depth of understanding of our language and classical syriac

you also improved the comprehensiveness of the dictionary on many fronts (ex. expanding the verb conjugation templates, applying reconstruction where necessary)

it's crazy to see how fast you picked things up, really awesome to see all you've contributed and will continue to do ColumbaBush (talk) 19:37, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
