[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as oldebert in 1479. Compound of Old Frisian ald (“old”) and bert (“settlement”). The initial T- is the result of the preposition te (“at”) being contracted into the toponym. The element ald was added to distinguish the settlement from Niebert. Compare Taarlo, Tinallinge and Tubbergen.
