Pronunciation

[edit]Toivo
- a male given name
- His name was an old-fashioned Toivo, and he did not like it. His mother had given it to him as a memory of the forest road and of the miracle. She had rest her hope in him, but that should not be done: that kind of hope will starve any child and the mother as well to top it off.
- 1989, Salme Aejmelaeus, Kaksi lakeutta. Isovanhempieni tarina, Karisto, →ISBN, page 172:
- The boy however was not named Penjami, but was christened Toivo after pastor Brummer. Back then Terijoki had many little Toivos.
- 2010, Mika Torkkel, Eliittisukeltaja, BoD - Books on Demand, →ISBN, page 7:
- Hyvinhän minä sillä Toivo-nimellä toimeen tulin ensimmäiset kymmenen vuotta, mutta sitten alkoi vähän etoa, kun minusta Toivo-nimi rupesi tuntumaan vähän samantapaiselta kuin esimerkiksi Sulo, Vieno, Uuno, Eemeli tai joku muu samantapainen. Joten aloin käyttää nimeä Topi, joka tuntui heti paljon paremmalta.
- I did get along well with the Toivo name for the first ten years, but then it started to disgust me a bit, when it began to feel like for example Sulo, Vieno, Uuno, Eemeli or something like that. So I started using the name Topi, which felt a lot better right away.
