Not a good idea. Why couldn't translation tables just have the most common word or words and leave the less common synonyms into being linked from the translation entries? — surjection ⟨??⟩ 10:50, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- The example for this template being Sanskrit, perhaps it is devised for dead language, where frequently you don’t know too much about commonness and/or it isn’t important either, or perhaps it depends heavily on chronolect and register, further expounded at a Thesaurus page, and the editor refrains from repeating himself, also for synchronization. I have one case where I have only linked a Thesaurus entry, cyclamen for Arabic. Arabic being a multicentric language, there isn’t any common word you can rely upon. Although the cases being so rare that one can do with plain links, one can say similar about
{{no equivalent translation}}
or{{not used}}
. To compare with these two templates,{{t-ws}}
is for cases where there are equivalents, but there is no equivalent in the language having a single term. Fay Freak (talk) 02:29, 20 August 2021 (UTC)- You already have to pick a form in order to come up with a title for the Thesaurus page. Just link that same term as a translation. — surjection ⟨??⟩ 16:38, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- Keep. This was created per Module_talk:translations#thesaurus and the new template was suggested by Benwing2. And this is really a harmless template; if you don't like it, don't use it. —Svārtava2 • 06:10, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Keep wholeheartedly. This template fixes a problem I've had for a long time. While editing translation sections I've many a time thought "If only there were a way we could add a link to a thesaurus entry!" But I never actually took the initiative of creating a template to fix that problem. So this template serves a quite useful purpose, and I definitely support it.
- I would note that the argument that it's "really a harmless template" is not as strong here as it was for the bor+ and inh+ templates. This template would actually change something from the user-side. But, if anything, it would add useful information and condense long lists of translations into one convenient link. So rather than littering the translation section with extra text/formatting, it actually makes it tidier. Imetsia (talk) 15:21, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
