Usage

Used on the definition line of a patronymic.

Most parameters are the same as in {{surname}}. The following parameters are specific to {{patronymic}}:

|1= (required): The language code of the term. See Wiktionary:List of languages.
|2= (required): Gender of patronymic; either m/male, f/female or c/common-gender/unisex.
|3=: Adjective or qualifier.

See {{surname}} for parameters such as |xlit=, |eq=, |from=, etc.

This template adds the page to the following categories (where LANG is the language whose code is specified using |1=):

1. For Icelandic Jónsdóttir:

a female patronymic

2. For Russian Иванович (Ivanovič):

{{patronymic|ru|male|xlit=Ivanovich,Ivanovitch}} ⇒
a male patronymic, Ivanovich or Ivanovitch

3. For Russian Петрович (Petrovič):

a male patronymic, Petrovich, meaning “son of Пётр (Pjotr) [=Peter]”

4. For Ancient Greek Νηληϊάδης (Nēlēïádēs):
