Template:name obor

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

An orthographic borrowing of a Russian patronymic

This template is used in definitions for orthographic borrowings of foreign names. (Orthographic borrowings occur especially between languages sharing a logographic script such as Chinese characters, and involve borrowing the characters but not the pronunciation, and pronouncing the word according to the borrowing language's rules rather than trying to approximate the source language's pronunciation.)

Parameters

[edit]

Parameters are identical to those of {{name translit}}. See there for more information.

Examples

[edit]

On the Japanese page (Hyo):

{{name obor|ja|zh|冰<xlit:Bing>|type=surname}}
An orthographic borrowing of the Chinese surname (bīng), Bing

and categorizes the page into Category:Japanese renderings of Chinese surnames and Category:Japanese orthographic borrowings from Chinese. Note in this case that the resulting pronunciation Hyo has little similarity with the source pronunciation Bing, but both are written with the same character; this is typical of orthographic borrowings.
