Use this template to automatically generate conventional Egyptological pronunciations and systematic anglicizations. Usually no parameters are necessary.

The Egyptological pronunciations generated largely follow the rules given in Wolfgang Schenkel’s 1991 Tübinger Einführung in die klassisch-ägyptische Sprache und Schrift, but with reference also made to the descriptive study of them in Carsten Peust’s 1999 Egyptian phonology: an introduction to the phonology of a dead language.

Parameters

|1=
For some words this parameter, consisting of the headword with certain modifications, must be supplied:
  • words with the causative prefix s- should have this prefix separated from the rest of the word by an underscore.
  • words ending in a suffix -w (whatever its function) should have this suffix separated from the rest of the word by an underscore.
  • weak verbs should have the weak verb ending -j or -w separated by an underscore.
  • words containing a reduplication of a series of consonants should be fixed such that the two reduplicated parts are pronounced identically and no e intervenes between them.
  • some words with the feminine suffix -t — those for which a corresponding masculine word lacking this suffix exists — can optionally have this suffix separated from the rest of the word by an underscore.
In some cases adding an underscore gives the same results as not adding it, even for these words; in such cases no parameter needs be supplied. (This is often the case if the word has an odd number of radicals.)
|ang=
A form of the headword used to generate the anglicization, if different from the one used for the Egyptological pronunciation. Set this parameter to 0 to disable the anglicization entirely (this is mostly for proper nouns that don’t use a systematic anglicization).
