- Class I person markers are used to indicate the subject of active verbs.
- Class II person markers indicate the subject for stative verbs, to indicate the direct object of verbs taking Class I or Class N subject markers, and are also used to indicate the possessor of inalienable nouns.
- Use of the Class I and Class II "hoo-" prefix to indicate a plural 3rd-person subject of a verb and its use is optional.
- Class III subject markers are used on verbs with a dative prefix im-/in-/i̠- and replace the prefix. Class III are also used as object (usually indirect object) markers for verbs and to indicate the possessor of alienable nouns.
- The Class N subject prefixes are used in the place of other subject markers to form the negative and unaccomplised hortatives of verbs as well as replacing the unaccomplished "ik-" prefix of negative verbs that that include the prefis "ik-".
- Class I and Class N subject markers cannot be used on a same verb together but both can be combined with either Class II or Class III object markers, depending on the verb.
- Class II and Class III markers cannot be used together on a same verb. If one wants to use a Class III object marker with a stative verb that normally takes a Class II subject marker, one can use a Class I subject marker instead to combine with a Class III object marker.
