This template is for displaying the headword line of Arabic nouns in the informal/construct-state form, principally for nouns whose lemma ends in ـٍ (-in) (e.g. وَادٍ (wādin, “valley”) and whose informal and nominative/genitive construct-state and definite-state forms end in ـِي (-ī), written in unvocalized text with an extra letter. The reason to include a special entry for the informal/construct-state form is the fact that it is spelled differently in unvocalized text from the lemma, which is not the case for most nouns. This template can also be used for nouns whose lemma ends in ـًى (-an) (e.g. مُسْتَشْفًى (mustašfan, “hospital”)) or ـًا (-an) (e.g. عَصًا (ʕaṣan, “stick”)) by specifying the parameter |acc=y, but there is less need to do so because the informal/construct-state form has the same unvocalized spelling as the lemma.

This template should go in the place where the headword-line template normally goes, but also provides the definition.

The equivalent template for adjectives is {{ar-adj-inf-def}}.

Parameters

|1=

Vocalized headword.

|2=

Corresponding lemma form (i.e. the indefinite nominative).

|g=

Gender; defaults to m (masculine).

|gloss=

Gloss (definition) of word.

|acc=y

Indicate that this form serves as the accusative construct state as well as the nominative and genitive. This is used for forms ending in -ā, e.g. مُسْتَشْفَى (mustašfā), construct state (all cases) of مُسْتَشْفًى (mustašfan, “hospital”).
