Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Thomas Otway's work The History and Fall of Caius Marius. A Tragedy. (1696); the 1st edition (London: […] Tho[mas] Fletcher, […], 1680; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | Epilogue: Spoke by Mrs. [Elizabeth] Barry, who Acted Lavinia |
Epistle Dedicatory | To the Lord Viscount Falkland |
Prologue | Prologue: Spoke by Mr.[Thomas] Betterton |
- As the epistle dedicatory and prologue are unpaginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/historyfallofcai00otwa/page/n10/mode/1up
, specify|page=10
. (The epilogue is also unpaginated, but the template is able to determine the URL.)
|scene=
– scene changes are indicated in the work but are not numbered. If desired, use this parameter to specify the scene number quoted from in lowercase Roman numerals.|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) of the work quoted from. If using|pages=
to quote a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
Act I pages 1–11 |
Act II pages 12–24 |
Act III pages 25–37 |
Act IV pages 38–52 |
Act V pages 53–65 |
|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
