Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Ben Jonson's work Bartholmew Fayre (Bartholomew Fair; 1st edition, 1631). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the HathiTrust Digital Library (archived at the Internet Archive).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | The Epilogue |
Induction | The Induction on the Stage |
Prologue | The Prologue to the Kings Maiesty |
- As the induction is unpaginated, use
|2=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the HathiTrust Digital Library to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc1.31175033462196&view=1up&seq=9
, specify|page=9
. (The prologue is also unpaginated, but the template can determine the URL to link to.)
|1=
or|scene=
– mandatory: the scene number of the work quoted from in lowercase Roman numerals.|2=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified, the template can determine the act number quoted from. However, if page 31, 50, or 69 is specified, this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this:|act=II
.
Act I pages 1–15 |
Act II pages 16-31 |
Act III pages 31–50 |
Act IIII pages 50–69 |
Act V pages 69–88 |
|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
