Usage

[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Thomas Heywood and William Rowley's work Fortune by Land and Sea. A Tragi-comedy. (1st edition, 1655). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.

Pages 12, 13, and 16 are misprinted as 10, 11, and 14. Specify them using the correct page numbers.

  • |act=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the act number quoted from. However, it is unable to do so if IA page 21, 33, or 43 is specified, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=II.
Act I
pages 3–12
Act II
pages 13–21
Act III
pages 21–33
Act IV
pages 33–43
Act IV
pages 43–48
  • |scene= – in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. If it is unable to do so, use this parameter to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, like this: |scene=i.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
