Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Henry Fielding's work The Covent-Garden Tragedy (1st edition, 1732). It may be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Criticism | A Criticism on the Covent-Garden Tragedy, Originally Intended for the Grub-street Journal |
Epilogue | Epilogue. Spoken by Miss Raftor [i.e., Kitty Clive], who Acted the Parts of Isabel in the Old Debauchees, and of Kissinda in this Tragedy. |
Prolegomena | Prolegomena |
Prologue | Prologue. Spoken by Mr. Theophilus Cibber. |
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I or II) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
- The "Prolegomena" and "A Criticism on the Covent-Garden Tragedy" are numbered as pages 1–11; the prologue and epilogue are unpaginated.
- The pagination of the main part of the play starts from page 1 again.
Act I pages 1–13 |
Act II pages 14–32 |
|scene=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. However, if it is unable to do so, use this parameter to specify it in lowercase Roman numerals, like this:|scene=i
. If quoting from the last scene in Act II, specify|scene=last
.|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
