Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Henry Fielding's work The Author's Farce; and The Pleasures of the Town (1st edition, 1730). It may be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | Epilogue |
Prologue | Prologue. Spoken by Mr. Jones. |
Song 1 | Song in the First Act |
Song 2 | Song by Mr. Blotpage in the Second Act |
- As the prologue, song in the First Act, and epilogue are unpaginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/bim_eighteenth-century_the-authors-farce-and-_fielding-henry_1730_1/page/n2/mode/1up
, specify|page=2
. (The song in the Second Act is also unpaginated, but the template can determine the URL.)
|subchapter=
– if quoting from Act III, use this parameter to specify the name of the subchapter quoted from, for example,|subchapter=Air I. Whilst the Town's Brimfull of Folly
.|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–III) and scene number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
Act I pages 1–15 |
Act II pages 16–27 |
Act III pages 28–59 |
|scene=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. However, if it is unable to do so, use this parameter to specify it in lowercase Roman numerals, like this:|scene=i
|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.

(the template can determine the act and scene numbers from the page number specified); or{{RQ:Fielding Author's Farce|40|By Jay'd! ay, that's another Excellence of the Don's; he does not only '''glean''' up all the Bad VVord of other Authors, but makes nevv Bad VVords of his ovvn.}}
