Turkish word

[edit]

@Djkcel, Hirabutor: please take a look at recent edits to this entry. Can you evaluate what the part of speech for this Turkish word should be? - -sche (discuss) 08:51, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

(Copied from Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2018/August#yok and var:) However they are described, they should be described the same way. Neither can be used attributively, which may argue against labelling them as adjectives. However, that is how the Turkish Vikisözlük classifies them both, and so does the German Wikiwörterbuch. Wikipedia calls them “descriptive adjectives”. I’ve also seen them described as (extremely) defective verbs, but that is a bit far-fetched, linguistically speaking. In any case, “determiner” seems completely off the mark. Note that these words can also be used in diverse ways as other parts of speech, like a noun or an interjection, just like English yes and no. [Off-topic. Turkish words like bazı and her are currently described as adjectives. Shouldn’t these be classified as determiners?]  --Lambiam 20:22, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
