@Vininn126, Shumkichi: both this term and upiór are said to be inherited from Proto-Slavic. But which is the actual regular Polish reflex? One of them has to have been borrowed, no? PUC – 12:54, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- @PUC "Wapierz" certainly looks more like a native development.
- https://wsjp.pl/haslo/do_druku/15907/upior - WSJP seems to agree and suggests that "upiór" might have been borrowed from some East Slavic reflex and the native form, "wąpierz", fell into disuse, but they also say that there are many native Polish words with alternative developments so it could also have been inherited directly from the Proto-Slavic form.
