This form tə́wt’o (Trager's transcription: < tˈəwt’o >) Is found in Parsons (1940).

This is suspiciously similar to tə́’utho "north" recorded in 1969 which would be < tˈəʔut‘o > in Trager's 1936 transcription. It seems possible that Trager missed the glottal stop in his fieldwork in the 1930s thus analyzing the u as a consonantal dipthong offglide w and that the apostrophe for the glottalized t’ was mistyped as the aspirated t‘.

Or it could be another form for "north(-ward" that differs from the other terms for "north" (and yet looks very similar). Ishwar 05:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
